Write the Book, Gather the Readers: How Nonfiction Authors Build Demand and Book Sales Before Publishing
Norbert Orlewicz
Marketing strategist for coaches, authors and experts
Session Details
Most nonfiction books struggle to find readers, not because the ideas aren’t good, but because they launch without an audience. In this session, marketing strategist Norbert Orlewicz shows authors how to build readers, demand, and momentum while they’re writing the book, not after it’s finished. You’ll learn how a simple weekly newsletter can act as both a writing discipline and a marketing engine, helping you test ideas, refine your message, and grow a list of readers who are ready when your book launches. Norbert will share real-world examples from his own book-in-progress and outline a practical, author-friendly system that reduces risk, increases book sales, and turns writing into a long-term growth asset.
You’ll Learn:
- How to turn writing into a marketing asset instead of a standalone project, so your book launches with momentum rather than uncertainty.
- How to build an audience for your book before it’s published, using a simple weekly newsletter that fits naturally into the writing process.
- How to create a repeatable system that supports book sales and long-term visibility, without relying on social media algorithms or last-minute promotion.

With over 20 years of experience in digital marketing, Norbert has helped sell more than $60 million in digital education, coaching, and information products. How BookPlan Stands Out from Other Workshops
We are a community, not a company. BK Authors, the nonprofit organization that hosts BookPlan, is a close-knit group of nonfiction authors who give freely of their time to support each other. With the exception of a part-time operations manager, none of the event planners or presenters are paid: we are doing this because we genuinely care about helping you and your book succeed!
We focus exclusively on nonfiction. Most book marketing events serve both fiction and nonfiction authors. We focus specifically on how to market nonfiction books with a message: books on business innovation, personal development, social change, and organizational improvement.
We focus on published or soon-to-be-published authors. Many workshops focus heavily on the process of getting published (query letters, pitches, etc.) and not on what you need to do after you sign the publishing contract to build an audience, sell books long-term, and make a lasting impact with your message.
We’re interactive. Forget staring at a pre-recorded video series. Our workshop is packed with interactive time to discuss ideas in small groups, brainstorm, receive feedback, and ask questions.
We offer a network of support. At BookPlan, you can develop friendships with other authors who can help hold you accountable and actively support your book marketing efforts. Then you can keep connecting with those authors at the events we host throughout the rest of the year.
We provide breadth of expertise. This workshop isn’t one author’s “secret formula” (which only works for them). Instead, our speakers come from a variety of companies and represent a wide range of experts, including bestselling authors, publishing professionals, publicity agents, marketing strategists, and social media managers.
